Every family here has the same photograph. The Eid lunch, the birthday, the grandparents over from abroad, and one small person in an outfit that looked perfect for six minutes and then had to come off because he could not bear the collar. I have taken that photograph.

The Little Sailor Edit is what I made instead. A full nautical range for babies and kids, Peter Pan collars, sailor pants, anchor prints and stripes, cut from bamboo lyocell soft enough that Atlas fell asleep in his on the drive home. Occasion clothes that behave like everyday clothes.

  • Head to toe in one print world

    That is the part people do not expect. You are not trying to match a nautical top bought here to a bottom bought elsewhere and hoping the navy is the same navy.

    Bamboo bodysuits, sailor shorts and pants, rompers, jumpsuits, baby dresses, overalls, and swaddle blankets and bibs in the same prints. Siblings coordinate without being dressed as twins, which is usually what you actually want in the photograph.

    And because the everyday pieces share prints with the occasion pieces, the good outfit does not sit unworn in a wardrobe for eleven months waiting for the next event.

    The full range, in one print world. Rompers, jumpsuits and playsuits. First Mate dresses and Ocean Bloom skirts. Magnetic bodysuits in both sleeve lengths. Sailor shorts and sailor pants in organic cotton.

What new parents ask me most

Will my child actually be comfortable in these for a whole event?

That was the entire brief. No stiff linings, no scratchy collars, because everything is cut from the same bamboo lyocell we use for sleepwear. Mine has fallen asleep in his in the car home more than once.

Can I dress siblings to coordinate without them looking identical?

Yes, and that is how I designed it. The nautical prints run across baby and older kids sizing, so a brother and sister match in feel rather than being dressed as twins.

Which sailor pieces are organic cotton?

The sailor pants and shorts. A tailored leg needs structure to keep its line. Everything else in the edit is bamboo lyocell.

Are these baby sailor outfits too formal for everyday?

Not at all. The bodysuits, shorts and rompers carry the same prints as the dressier pieces, so the look works on an ordinary Tuesday and the special outfit earns its place all year.

What ages does the Little Sailor Edit cover?

Newborn through the older kids sizes, including swaddle blankets and bibs for the newborn stage in the same prints.

Occasion clothes usually come with a trade

You get something beautiful and your child is miserable in it, or you get something comfortable and it does not feel like an occasion. Most of us have quietly accepted that trade. I did not want to make anything that forced it.

So the whole edit is bamboo lyocell, the same fabric we use for sleepwear. The Peter Pan bodysuits, the sailor jumpsuits, the nautical rompers and dresses, all of it smooth against the skin with no stiff lining and no seam that leaves a mark on the back of a neck.

It is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified against Product Class I, the strictest class and the one written for articles worn by babies and toddlers. The sailor pants and shorts are organic cotton, because a tailored leg needs to hold its shape and that is a job structure does better than drape.

There is a practical reason it breathes, too. Family gatherings in the UAE and Saudi Arabia mean a car in the heat, a majlis at 20 degrees, and a child being passed between relatives for two hours. Bamboo moves moisture off his skin through all of that, which is the difference between a baby who settles and one whose afternoon is over by 2pm.
