  • What to put her in, depending on how cold you keep the room

    For a bedroom around 22 to 24 degrees, which is where most families in Dubai, Sharjah and Riyadh set the air conditioning, a short-sleeved bodysuit under a bamboo sleepsuit is the right combination. If your AC runs colder, use long sleeves underneath rather than adding a heavier layer on top. A 1.0 TOG sleep bag goes over the sleepsuit on the coldest nights.

    Four to six sleepsuits is the honest number. They get changed more often than anything else she owns, between leaks, spit-up and the occasional full outfit change at 2am, and in this climate you are washing daily regardless. The bodysuits layer underneath all of them.

What should my baby wear under a sleepsuit with the AC on?

For a room around 22 to 24 degrees, a short-sleeved bodysuit underneath is the right combination. If your air conditioning runs colder, switch to long sleeves underneath rather than adding a heavier layer on top.

Do the baby sleepsuits have zips or poppers?

Two-way zips, all of them. They open from the bottom so you can change a nappy in the dark without undressing her upper half or lining up a single popper.

What size does my baby need?

Sizes run from Newborn to 24 months: Newborn, 0-3M, 3-6M, 6-9M, 9-12M, 12-18M and 18-24M. Our sizing runs larger than conventional baby clothes because we fit it on our son Atlas, a 95th percentile baby. If your baby is between sizes, size up, and always size up for a gift.

How many bamboo sleepsuits do I need?

Four to six. Sleepsuits are changed more often than anything else in her wardrobe, so having spares means you are never waiting on a wash cycle at 2am.

Are these suitable for a newborn with sensitive skin?

They are what I made for my own. The fibre is smooth so there is less friction, and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification against Product Class I, the tier applied to articles for babies and toddlers, means everything has been tested for harmful substances before it touches her.

Why the zip matters more than the print

A two-way zip opens from the bottom. That one detail means you can change a nappy without undressing your baby's whole top half and without exposing her chest to a cold room. No sequence to get wrong in the dark, no popper that turns out to be one off, no starting again while she works herself up and the hour disappears. It sounds like a small thing right up until it is 3am, and then it is not.

Baby sleepwear has the longest contact with your baby of anything she owns. Ten, sometimes twelve hours, in a bedroom that is air conditioned from May to October across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf. That is why I care more about the fabric here than anywhere else in the range.

Bamboo lyocell moves moisture away from her skin and lets heat escape rather than holding it in, and babies tend to settle for longer stretches in it. It is also noticeably smooth, which matters over that many hours of contact, particularly if your baby has sensitive or eczema-prone skin.

Every baby sleepsuit and zippy footie here is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified against Product Class I, the strictest class, the one written for articles worn by babies and toddlers.
