Does bamboo clothing hold up to washing this often?

It does, and that is why I stayed with it. In a climate where you are washing near daily, bamboo lyocell keeps its softness and its shape considerably longer than I expected, which is the whole point when you are dressing a boy who treats clothes as disposable.

Why are the boys pants and shorts organic cotton?

Because a waistband and a knee need structure. Bamboo drapes softly, which is wonderful in a sleepsuit and wrong in a tailored leg. Organic cotton holds that shape through repeated washing.

Do all the boys bodysuits have magnetic closures?

Every single one. The magnets are sealed inside the fabric, not accessible to your son, and they align themselves so you can fasten a bodysuit one-handed in a dark room.

What ages does the boys collection cover?

Newborn through 10 years. The baby end is bamboo bodysuits, rompers, playsuits and sleepsuits, and from around two it moves into two-piece bamboo pajama sets.

Is bamboo clothing good for boys with sensitive skin?

It is a common choice for it. The fibre is smooth so there is less friction, and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification against Product Class I, the tier written for babies and toddlers, means it has been tested for harmful substances before it goes anywhere near him.

The washing machine is the real test

Not the shop floor. Anyone can make a baby outfit that looks good on a hanger. The question is what it looks like in week six, after near daily washing, because in this climate that is exactly what happens. Sand, sweat, spills, the nursery bag, repeat.

Bamboo lyocell holds its softness and its shape through that far better than I expected when I first started making things for Atlas, and it is the reason I kept going with it.

It also breathes, which matters here more than almost anywhere. He runs outside in a Dubai 45 degrees, sits in a car at 20, then walks into a shopping centre that is colder still. Bamboo lyocell moves moisture off his skin and lets the heat go, so he arrives home comfortable rather than grizzly and damp.

Everything we make is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified against Product Class I, the strictest class and the one applied to articles for babies and toddlers, so nothing harmful sits against his skin all day either.

  • What to buy him first, and why the fabrics change halfway through

    Not everything should be bamboo. Bamboo drapes beautifully, which is perfect for a sleepsuit and completely wrong for a waistband. The sailor pants and shorts are organic cotton for that reason. They keep a tailored leg looking tailored through a hundred washes and a boy who kneels on absolutely everything. Right fabric, right job, every time.

    And then the magnets. Every boys bodysuit here fastens with magnets sealed inside the fabric. You will understand within about a day of using one.

    One hand steadying a wriggling baby, the other closing the bodysuit without looking, without a single popper to line up in the dark. Start him in the magnetic bodysuits for the baby years. When he is past two and has opinions about what he wears, the bamboo pajamas for ages 2 to 10 carry on in the fabric he already knows.
