Skin-First Materials

For Tiny Humans

Soft on skin, light on the planet, made to be worn (and re-worn)

Why Skin-First?

Babies’ skin is thinner, drier and more reactive. Our rule is simple: if it isn’t the kindest option for sensitive or eczema-prone skin, it doesn’t make the cut.

We choose smooth, breathable fibers, low-impact dyes and baby-safe finishes. Then we lab-test the results.

  • Ultra-Soft
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Breathable
  • Non-Toxic

From Bamboo Lyocell to Tencel and Organic Cotton, our materials are chosen the same way a mom chooses for her own baby: Only The Best

Lyocell

Soft like a hug. Kind to skin. Easy on the planet.

Lyocell is a modern fiber made from wood or bamboo pulp. It’s created in a smart, water-saving closed-loop process that recycles what it uses, so it’s gentler on the environment.

  • The Softest Fabric You'll Ever Touch
  • Hypoallergenic & Breathable
  • Regulates Temperature
  • Wicks Moisture
  • Strong & Long Lasting
  • Eco Friendly

We use both Bamboo Lyocell and TENCEL™ Lyocell.

Bamboo Lyocell vs. Bamboo Rayon (Viscose)

Softer on skin • Lower impact • Longer-lasting

Both start as plant cellulose but the process makes the difference.

Solvent & process

Lyocell uses a single, non-toxic solvent in a closed loop, while Rayon/Viscose uses a multi-step chemistry with variable recovery.

Environmental impact

Lyocell has much lower water loss and emissions thanks to recovery; viscose can be very high.

Fiber hand & strength

Rounder, smoother lyocell fibers feel cooler/softer, stay stronger when wet, pill less, and hold shape better.

Care & longevity

Lyocell keeps its hand feel on gentle machine cycles; viscose often needs extra care to avoid bagging or shrinking.

Organic Cotton

But only the really soft kind.

When we want cozy texture with structure, we choose Certified Organic Cotton. But we’re picky! Some organic cotton can feel raw or stiff depending on yarn and finishing; we never use a fabric just because it’s “organic.”

Ours must meet our Skin-First standard: ultra-soft, breathable, gently finished, and kind to delicate skin.

  • Soft but Durable
  • Natural Fiber
  • Certified Dyes
  • Sourced only GOTS Certified

The Tiny Things Matter

Skin-first means we scrutinize every trim. Beyond Fabric, we look carefully into kind components.

  • Zippers & snaps: Always YKK. Smooth pull, durable, and lab-tested.
  • Nickel-free hardware, including poppers.
  • Tag-free labels, always printed.
  • Threads & interlinings: specified for low-irritation and durability.
  • Dyes & inks: safer chemistry, compliant with strict restricted-substance lists; azo-dye and heavy-metal testing.
  • Magnets: securely sewn inside safety pockets between fabric layers.

Our Standards

We’re a young brand, and we’re actively building toward our own brand-level certification MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX®. To get there, we only work with vetted, certified partners and we lab-test every production with independent labs, including: pH, colorfastness, azo/heavy metals, needle-detect, among others.

  • OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100

All our fabrics, prints, and trims are tested for harmful substances to baby-safe Class I. As well as all partner facilities are accredited with their certification.

  • STeP by OEKO-TEX®

Our production sites, including cut/sew and wet processing, are audited via STeP by OEKO-TEX® for environment, safety, social and quality management.

  • GOTS

We source exclusively GOTS-certified organic cotton and hold its certification. All our production partners are also certified at facility level.

  • Pulp & Fiber

We exclusively source responsible pulp with FSC certification and/or branded lyocell from Lenzing (TENCEL™) for traceability.

  • BSCI

Partner factories undergo Amfori BSCI audits; our Code of Conduct is signed and corrective actions are tracked.

  • RSL & Final Testing

Mills comply with strict Restricted Substances Lists; every batch of finished goods is lab-tested against azo/heavy metals, pH, colorfastness, needle-detect, dimensional stability.

FAQ

Are Atlas & Maya™ products safe for baby skin?

Yes. We specify OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 (Class I) materials, uphold strict RSLs with our mills, and lab-test finished batches (pH, colorfastness, azo/heavy metals, needle-detect).

We design for skin comfort (soft bindings, tag-free labels, nickel-free contact points).

Is Bamboo Lyocell good for sensitive or eczema-prone skin?

We believe is the best material for sensitive skin. That's why we love it.

Many parents find it gentler: lyocell’s round, ultra-fine fibers feel smoother, it’s breathable and thermoregulating, and it wicks moisture.

Note that it isn’t a medical treatment.

What certifications do Atlas & Maya™ hold today?

We rely on supplier and material certifications: OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 (Class I) on fabrics/trims/prints, GOTS-certified for our cotton and suppliers, FSC at pulp level for bamboo pulps, and Amfori BSCI audits at factories. We also perform finished-goods lab tests per batch. We are in progress of obtaining MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® at brand level.

Why do you use Spandex™ (elastane)? Is it sustainable?

We use a maximum of 5% in our blends to add gentle stretch and recovery so pieces fit better, move with your child, and keep their shape, which means they’re worn longer, fewer replacements are needed, and less waste is generated.

As per GOTS and certified organic standards, the use of Spandex under 5% is still certifiable organic and considered Low Impact on the environment.

Elastane is synthetic, so we keep it minimal, specify high-quality yarns as those sourced from Spandex™ brand, and test to OEKO-TEX® Class I.

What chemicals do you avoid?

We avoid formaldehyde resins, PFAS “forever chemicals”, banned azo dyes and heavy-metal dyes, chlorine bleach/optical brighteners, intentional fragrance on fabrics, flame-retardant finishes, nickel, and PVC/phthalates in prints or trims.

Are Atlas & Maya™ zippers and snaps safe? What about magnets?

Yes, we carefully source safe components. We exclusively use YKK hardware, always nickel-free. Magnets are sewn inside safety pockets between fabric layers. We do recommend to inspect regularly and discontinue use if a seam is damaged.

How should I care for Atlas & Maya™ garments?

Wash cool (30°C) on gentle; close zippers/snaps/magnets and turn inside-out. Use mild detergent (no bleach or softener). Line dry or tumble low; remove promptly. Steam or low-iron inside-out. Pilling is rare; if it appears, use a fabric comb and wash inside-out.
